Why Game Studios Choose Alconost
The differences that show up in the work — some measurable, some practical.
[ 01 ]
Translation Quality Scored. Our Minimum: 95%.
When we say quality, we mean a number. Every translator in our pool is held to a 95% TQI minimum — a score built from real project reviews and error analysis. For projects where genre knowledge is part of doing the job right, we layer genre-specific matching on top of that.

Translations Players Won't Cringe At
Our linguists know a buff from a debuff, why "GG EZ" matters, how item descriptions balance atmosphere with readability. For projects with a strong genre voice — narrative-heavy titles, games built around a specific domain like motorsport or historical strategy — we can match translators by the specific genre.

Context-First Translation
Context is what separates a technically correct translation from one that reads naturally. We build it in from the start: screenshots, string comments, and a clear brief so translators aren't guessing.

We Voice What We See
We bring our expertise to your project and share our perspective. If there's a gap in your style guide coverage, we'll flag it and offer to fill it. If there's a place where AI could save budget without touching quality, we'll point it out. You tell us how you want things — including keeping the workflow fully human. Say it once and it sticks.

// 02 — Quality
Quality Measured, Not Assumed
We don't describe quality, we score it in numbers.
TQI — Translation Quality Index
Each linguist in our pool carries a TQI score — Translation Quality Index, an industry-standard metric — based on their reviewed project work. This is how we verify translation quality by the numbers, objectively.
Our standard is 95% TQI or above. If your project calls for a higher threshold, or you need a translator with a specific background in your genre or subject matter, we filter for that.
AQI — Alconost Quality Index
On AI-assisted projects, we test different engines on samples of your actual content. Each engine is scored across six quality metrics plus a human linguist's assessment — the results combine into a single AQI score.
We use those scores to compare engine performance on your specific content and language pair, and recommend the best option per target language. Which engine fits — and whether AI fits at all for your content — is our call to make.
1,100+ linguists are in our pool. We narrow that down for every project by language pair, then by game localization experience, then by genre when it matters.

Get to know your team
Matched by genre — when your project calls for it
Game localization experience is always the first filter. If your project calls for more specificity on top of that — we go further, just let us know.
Get to know each linguist on your project
Ask for a blind profile on anyone we've shortlisted: background, core domains, years in localization, TQI score, even devices they use. Some include a personal note on what drives them. Available at any point — not just at kickoff.
You set the bar — we find who meets it
Need translators with a specific TQI or years of experience in game localization? Tell us your criteria — we'll filter accordingly. Or review profiles yourself and make the call. Either way works.
Test the team on your actual content
Once we've shortlisted candidates, we can run a translation test on content from your project. You finalize the team based on real output — not just credentials.
No gaps in coverage
If our current pool doesn't fully cover your language pair or specialization, we find and verify additional linguists for your project. Same 95% TQI standard. No extra cost for the hiring.
Every linguist meets the 95% TQI bar
That holds for the full team — including any linguists we bring in when expanding the pool specifically for your project.
Language is one layer. Culture is another. Before we start, we agree on which content gets creative treatment and how far the adaptation should go — so the result matches what you had in mind.
[ 01 ]
Humor & References
Jokes and puns that work in the target language. Pop culture references adapted for local audiences or reshaped to carry the original intent.
[ 02 ]
Regional Sensitivities
We look at your game through local eyes and flag content that could affect ratings or reception – early enough to adapt before launch.
[ 03 ]
Creative Naming
Character names, item names, ability names. We check each one for phonetic fit and cultural context — so they carry the intended meaning and land right.

Universal File Support
JSON, XML, CSV, XLIFF, PO, YAML, Unity, Unreal, and more. Your exact format, no conversion headaches.
Platform Agnostic
Have a TMS? We join it. Starting fresh? We set up Crowdin for you. No vendor lock-in either way.
Integrations & API
We connect to your content repositories and dev tools via API. Need a custom connector? We build it.
AI Done Right
Human translation is our default. When AI fits, we test how various engines perform on your content and target languages — each receiving an AQI score. We use those scores to compare engines objectively and tell you which one performs best for each target language. That call is ours to make — not yours to sort through.
// 07 — Process
How It Works
You'll always know where things stand. And if something isn't right at any stage, fixing it is on us.
01
Define the Project Scope
We ask specific questions: your technical setup, terminology, tone, and timeline. Your answers shape everything that follows — from translator selection to final delivery.
02
Build Your Localization Team
We select translators by language pair, game experience, and genre. Every linguist holds a TQI score of 95% or above. Have specific requirements? We'll handle those too.
03
Localize Your Game
Track progress on the platform: what's been translated, what's in review, what's left. Fully visible at any point.
04
Deliver Localized Content
Translated strings formatted to match your requirements, saved in the original file format and structure.
05
In-Game Testing
Want extra assurance? We can test your localized texts directly in the game interface to catch context issues.
06
Ongoing Updates
New content? We localize updates while maintaining consistency in style and terminology. Your glossary and TM grow with the project — new terms tracked and maintained as content evolves.
// 08 — Straight Answers
Common Concerns
Straight answers to the questions we hear often.
“We've had bad localization experiences before.”
Over two decades in game localization. Every translator on your project meets our 95% TQI threshold — a score built from real error analysis across their project history. If something's not right, we fix it at no extra cost.
“We already have a localization vendor.”
We work alongside existing setups, not instead of them. If there's a track that needs extra hands — or a gap your current vendor isn't covering — we plug in there. We can also connect with your existing TMS or version control; your workflow stays intact.
“Our timeline is very tight.”
Urgent deadlines? We get it — plenty of our clients come to us with their hair on fire. Tell us your deadline, and we'll assemble a team fast or scale up your current one to hit it.
“We can translate everything with AI for free.”
For some content, it can really work. The question is where the output holds up and where quality issues start costing you. That's what we help you work out: we score different engines on your specific content through AQI and recommend the one that performs best for each target language. Whether AI makes sense for your content, and which engine to use if it does — that's on us to figure out, not on you.
“I'd like a price idea before reaching out.”
We price per source volume — usually per 1,000 characters. The total depends on your language pairs, content type, and service level. There's no single rate card because a 5,000-word puzzle game and a 150,000-word RPG are different jobs in more ways than just scope. If budget is a constraint, let us know your target — we'll suggest the service level that fits.
“Our native-speaking colleagues can handle it.”
Being a native speaker is a starting point, not a qualification. A professional game translator knows localization tooling, maintains terminology consistency across updates, and understands the genre conventions players expect. And chances are, your colleagues have plenty on their plates without this added to it.
The value for money of the localization services was very good, but it was actually much better than I expected, I would definitely work with Alconost again.
“
I contacted Alconost when I needed to translate a game into ten different languages. The translation was completed very quickly and in a format that was convenient for me.
“
We receive positive feedback from users from the target countries about the localization.
“
Alconost fully takes care of all possible nuances that may arise during the translation process.
“
Communication with the manager is straightforward and any issues are promptly addressed.
“
The higher the quality of the translation, the faster users will be able to learn how to use the interface and the more purchases they will make.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you select translators for my game?
We filter in three steps: first by language pair, then by gaming experience, then by your specific genre — MMORPG, survival horror, visual novel, strategy, etc. Each linguist has a profile with their gaming background and genre expertise, and every one of them meets a 95% TQI minimum.
How do you measure translation quality?
We use TQI — Translation Quality Index — based on MQM methodology. Every error is classified and weighted by how much it matters. Our TQI standard is 95% — higher on request. On AI-assisted projects, we also use AQI — Alconost Quality Index — to evaluate engine performance before selecting the best fit for your content.
What's the difference between TQI and AQI?
TQI (Translation Quality Index) measures the quality of the final translated text — whether it was produced by our linguists, another vendor, or an AI with human post-editing. Each error is classified by impact and severity.
AQI (Alconost Quality Index) measures how well an AI engine performs on your specific content and language pair — before we recommend it for your project. It's only relevant on AI-assisted projects.
How do you maintain consistency across languages and updates?
A translation memory (TM) and glossary are built for your project and grow with it. The same linguists who know your game handle new content, so terminology and style stay consistent across patches, seasonal events, and new levels.
How do you handle context for translators?
Context is built in from the start: screenshots, string comments, and a clear brief so translators aren't guessing. Where extra assurance helps, we can also test localized text directly in the game interface to catch context issues.
What languages do you support?
120+ languages, covering all major gaming markets: FIGS (French, Italian, German, Spanish), CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean), Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Turkish, Polish, Thai, Vietnamese, and many more. If your target language isn't already covered, we find and vet the right linguists.
Can you work alongside our current vendor?
Absolutely — multi-vendor setups are something we're comfortable with. Some studios bring us in for specific pieces their current vendor can't cover right now: marketing localization, a quality audit, or localization testing ahead of a launch. We slot in where we're needed, without disrupting what's already working.
How do you handle confidentiality for unreleased games?
NDA-protected workflows, secure file transfers, and strict access controls. All linguists sign project-specific NDAs. If you prefer no AI involvement for confidentiality reasons, we don't use it — simple as that.
What file formats do you support?
JSON, XML, CSV, XLIFF, PO, YAML, Unity, Unreal, and more — in your exact format, with no conversion headaches. Translated strings are returned in the original file format and structure.
Can you work with our existing localization platform?
Yes. Have a TMS? We join it. Starting fresh? We set up Crowdin for you — no vendor lock-in either way. We can also connect to your content repositories and dev tools via API, and build a custom connector if you need one.
What's the difference between human translation and MTPE?
Human translation is our default — a native linguist translates from scratch. MTPE (machine translation post-editing) runs suitable content through a vetted engine, then has a native linguist review and correct every word. On suitable content MTPE can cut costs by 35–50%; we test first to make sure quality holds up.
How quickly can you turn around translations?
We sync with your release schedule — new strings in, translations out, ready for deployment. For active projects with urgent requests, we have a fast lane. Urgent patches can turn around in 24–48 hours.
How does pricing work for text localization projects?
We price per source volume — usually per 1,000 characters. The total depends on your language pairs, content type, and service level, so there's no single rate card: a 5,000-word puzzle game and a 150,000-word RPG are different jobs. Tell us what you're working on and we'll send an accurate quote — usually within 24 hours.
You describe what you need. We figure out how to make it work — and stand behind the result. Not ready for a full project? We can start with one language, one track, or one piece of content.
