Why Your Translated Designs Need Multilingual DTP

Translating text changes its length, direction, and structure — and without proper layout adjustments, even great translations can break your design and slow down your release process.

Real Example: Complex Layout Adaptation

This side-by-side comparison from our localization guide needed to maintain visual balance and parallel structure across English and Korean — despite significant differences in text length and character density.

Icon alignment

X marks and checkmarks consistently positioned despite varying text lengths

Column balance

Both sides remain visually equivalent even with different content density

What Our Clients Say

/static/gallery-feedback-images/

We considered jumping into our MTPE experiment with a new partner, but Alconost won out in a fair fight. They were able to offer us market rates and terms, even while maintaining all the extras and added value we always enjoyed from Alconost for our older projects requiring native-speaker localization from scratch.

Yulia Karostik, Head of Support & Localization

We have external assessments performed, including by the App Store and Google Play, and they give us high marks for localization quality. We also order occasional LQA from other agencies, and they rate Alconost's work very highly. Basically, in all the years Vizor and Alconost have been working together, we've never had quality problems. I feel confident they'll never let us down.

Vizor

Vitalia Fokina, Localization Project Manager

Their customer support is perfect. The way they care about our needs exceeds my expectations.

What we liked most is that they know exactly how to work with Crowdin and provide MTPE services. It definitely matched our needs 100%!

Radinka Danilov Sehovic, Senior Marketing & Communications Expert

Different combinations of MT, MTPE, and human translation make it possible for us to add new languages to the game quickly and inexpensively, which is incredibly important at the earliest stage, when marketing is less sure how much potential a certain locale might have.

FAQ

How do you guarantee DTP quality?

We use In-Layout QA where native speakers review the final layouts in context. This catches issues that text-only review misses, including spacing problems, font rendering issues, and cultural appropriateness. Every project goes through multiple checkpoints before delivery.

Can you work directly in my Figma/Sketch files?

Yes. We work with Figma, Sketch, and other design tools. Our team can adapt your existing files for different languages while maintaining your design system and component structure.

What if I only need DTP without translation?

We handle DTP-only projects. If you already have translations, we'll integrate them into your layouts and ensure proper formatting for each language.

How do you handle text expansion?

Our DTP specialists adjust layouts to accommodate language differences. German typically expands 30% from English, while Chinese contracts. We modify text boxes, adjust spacing, and reflow content to maintain your design integrity.

How much does DTP cost?

Pricing depends on:

  • File format and complexity
  • Number of languages and script types
  • Page count and graphic density
  • Timeline requirements

Contact us with your project details for an accurate quote.

What languages do you support?

We provide translation services in over 120 languages, including not just the widely spoken ones like English, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, and Spanish but also rare languages and dialects. We can find a translator in almost any language that you need.

How do you select translators for my project?

For each project, we handpick translators who specialize in the required domain. Our localization managers consider the training and professional background of translators to ensure the best match between project needs and the translator's qualifications.

We typically assign one or more translators to your project and maintain a consistent working relationship with them. This is beneficial if you have large projects with periodic updates or simply prefer a specific translator's style. In the rare event of a translator change, we provide the glossary and translation memory to the new translator so that the project remains consistent in terminology and style.

What industries do you specialize in?

Your content is translated by specialized linguists with deep industry expertise. We cover a wide range of industries, including but not limited to:

  • Technology & Software
  • e-Commerce & Retail
  • Healthcare & Life Sciences
  • Finance & FinTech
  • Education & e-Learning
  • Travel & Hospitality
  • Gaming & Entertainment
  • Marketing & Advertising
  • Manufacturing & Engineering
  • Automotive & Transportation
  • Media & Publishing
  • Food & Beverage

And many more!

How do you make sure translations are delivered on time?

We provide clear, detailed timelines for your project, with full visibility via our localization platform, so you can track progress in real time. If you need to accelerate completion, we offer flexible options like adding extra resources or setting up a minimum viable localization strategy to save time without sacrificing quality. We also use technology to automate manual tasks and speed up the workflow.

What if I need a faster turnaround?

For time-sensitive or urgent requests, we offer flexible solutions to speed up the translation process. This may include adding extra resources or implementing a minimum viable localization strategy to save time while maintaining quality.

How is the cost of a translation calculated?

The cost of your translation project depends on several key factors, including the language pair (source and target), text volume, amount of repeated content (available in a Translation Memory), and service level.

We offer flexible service levels so you can balance costs based on the type of content. For non-critical content, we provide cost-effective machine translation post-editing (MTPE), where we select the best engine for each language and have a human translator review the text for accuracy. For critical, customer-facing content, we offer fully human translation and/or transcreation, as well as international SEO services.

We also use translation memory, so you only pay for new content. Repeated or previously translated text can receive up to a 100% discount, helping you save time and reduce costs.

For our pay-as-you-go model, translation costs are calculated per 1,000 characters (spaces included). HTML tags are excluded when calculating text volume. There are no subscriptions, so you only pay for the work completed.

Pricing varies by language. We work with native-speaking translators who live in the target cultures and compensate them fairly based on the cost of living in their country. Rates may also vary depending on the language's rarity or the project's complexity.

Lastly, we offer volume discounts for larger projects. The more content you need to translate, the more you can save.

Do I pay for repeated text in my translation?

We use translation memory, so you only pay for new content. Repeated or previously translated text can receive up to a 100% discount, helping you save time and reduce costs. Additionally, we offer volume discounts for larger projects: the more content you need to translate, the more you can save.

Does pricing vary by language?

The cost of your project depends on four key factors: service level, text volume, content repetition, and languages (both target and source).

Our flexible service levels let you balance costs based on the type of content. For non-critical content, we offer cost-effective machine translation post-editing (MTPE), where we first select the best engine for each language and then have a human translator review the text for accuracy. For critical, customer-facing content, we provide fully human translation, transcreation, and international SEO services.

We also use translation memory, meaning you only pay for new content. Repeated or previously translated text can receive up to a 100% discount, helping you save time and reduce costs. Additionally, we offer volume discounts for larger projects: the more content you need to translate, the more you can save. For specific details, feel free to contact us for a customized quote.

Finally, pricing does vary by language. We work with native-speaking translators who live in the cultures you're targeting, and we pay them fairly based on the cost of living in their country. Rates may also vary depending on the rarity of the language or the complexity of the project.
