App localization platforms and continuous localization
Using online platforms, you can arrange the localization process so that your app is always fully localized at the time of each release, regardless of your release cycle or even the time of day. This works approximately as follows:
- The programmer adds a string to the file containing the string resources and publishes the changes, for example, to Git.
- The file updated by the programmer is sent to the localization platform using a special command-line utility. The translator sees the new string immediately.
- The translator translates the new string.
- The updated file containing the string resources is fetched from the platform using the same command-line utility before the next build of the project is compiled.
Thus, when you are ready to release your app or game, all localizations will be 100% ready and will not delay your release.
For continuous localization projects we usually recommend the cloud-based translation platform Crowdin, which allows localization projects to be managed in real time.
We also work on other localization platforms, such as GitLocalize, Phrase, Lokalise, Memsource, Memoq, Smartcat, Webtranslateit, Transifex, OneSky, POEditor, Trados, and many more.
Professional translation and project management
With Alconost, your localization project will be handled by a dedicated project manager. Your project manager is your “single point of contact,” who will help you resolve any and all your questions regarding the project. The project manager:
- Studies your material and the unique features of the text in depth
- Works out the price, taking repetitions into consideration
- Selects a team of translators and editors with the requisite specializations
- Oversees deadlines
- Supervises the quality, formatting and consistency of the completed translations
- Maintains the glossary and translation memory
- Organizes linguistic testing
- Prepares all required accompanying documentation (agreement, invoice, PO)
- Is available practically 24/7 to answer any of your questions
We have approximately 700 professional native-speaking translators on our team, who specialize in a broad range of fields. We always try to assign one or more dedicated translators to your project and work specifically with these translators on a continuous basis. This is useful if you have a large project that is updated periodically, you need to use consistent terminology, or you simply like a particular translator's style. If the translator changes for some reason, they will provide the glossary and translation memory to the new translator to ensure consistency of terminology and style in future updates.
Mobile app localization testing
After the localized version of the app has been compiled, a localization specialist tests the build on the relevant local version of the OS. During linguistic testing, the tester takes screenshots of problem areas (untranslated text, strings that go off screen, wrong encoding or text direction, wrong context) and works with the developer to make changes to the resource files. Our linguistic testing service is available to you even if you have already translated your app yourself or through an outside provider. Learn more or order localization testing for your mobile app.
Translation of short in-app texts, app store descriptions, and updates

You can place an order with Nitro in just a few clicks, without involving a manager. You can request swift translation of texts into several foreign languages simultaneously, within 2-24 hours. To ensure consistency, you can create a new glossary or upload an existing one to Nitro.
Creation of videos for apps, localization of video and audio content
Alconost Video creates videos for the App Store and Google Play, teasers, trailers, and explainers, but that’s not all we do. Our team can also localize video and audio content.
App localization cost and pricing
The cost of localization depends on several factors
- Amount of text to be translated (number of characters including spaces)
- Languages
- Cost of subscribing to the localization platform
- Cost of proofreading (if any)
- Cost of localization testing (if any)

What languages should I translate into first?
We’ve analyzed the number of native speakers who are Internet users by native language, the total volume of online sales, and Google Play revenue by region. This resulted in the following top 10 languages for localization:
- English – United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia
- Chinese — China and Taiwan (Simplified and Traditional Chinese)
- Japanese — Japan
- French — France, Canada, and Belgium
- German — Germany, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland
- Russian — Russia
- Korean — South Korea
- Spanish — Spain, Mexico, and Argentina
- Portuguese — Brazil
Ultimately, the choice of languages depends on your product type and business objectives. For instance, localization into niche languages can sometimes offer better marketing prospects than mainstream locales. So always keep your product in mind.
We can find a translator in almost any language that the client needs, depending on his product and goals. Sometimes localization into niche languages can offer better prospects than localization into mainstream languages.
In case some rare language is not on the list, we can help with searching and recruiting linguists.
How can I speed up and / or automate the localization of my app?
We have plenty of automation options to streamline the workflow for the localization of your app.
Firstly, if you want to quickly localize a glowing customer review, test an ad for a foreign market, or adapt the description of your app for your international users, you can use our online translation platform Nitro that delivers translations by native-speaking linguists within 24 hours.
Nitro also has a free translation API that's compatible with all programming languages (Python, JavaScript, Java, PHP, etc.) and platforms (iOS, Android, etc.). Once you set up the Nitro API, you can upload and retrieve translations within your own project.
If you’re looking to automate the workflow for the localization of your app on a larger scale, we work with professional translation APIs and Translation Management Systems (TMSs) that help reduce back-and-forth and keep the lines of communication clear and simple. We also work with other translation and localization APIs of your choice on request.
